"New Israeli Shekel" or NIS. Currently, exchange rates are as follows: US$1 = 3.577 NIS, 1 Euro = 4.162 NIS (these rates are subject to changes). A taxi from the airport to Jerusalem will cost approx. 250-300 NIS, but there are shared taxis (called "sheirut") that efficiently bring you to the destination as well that cost about 65 NIS per person. We recommend that you either bring at least 500 NIS with you or use the ATM machine at the airport to withdraw cash (a cash machine located opposite customs).
Please note that on Sabbath, from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown, public train and bus services are not available.
